Like many entrepreneurs, I decided to open a Web-based company a few years ago. Recently, prompted by the rise and success of social marketing, our site offered a comments section attached to the e-store.
Unfortunately, within days of the forum functionality going live, it was raided by spammers and business rivals who posted unwanted commentary on the site. Lacking the resources to constantly moderate the site, our business was faced with a dilemma: how to keep social marketing alive while locking out e-intruders.
We chose Reverselookup.com in order to perform IP tracking of site visitors. This feature allowed us to track both the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and locations of the spammers. We were able to use this information to contact the ISPs and have them cancel the user accounts being employed to post spam to our site.
After blocking the spammers, we have not experienced a recurrence in unwanted comments. Participation on the forum has increased radically as legitimate users no longer have to wade through spam to learn more about our products. Our revenues have gone up as well through word of mouth.
Social marketing is here to stay. Unfortunately, so is spam. In our case, growth was limited by an inability to keep intruders off our forum, and Reverselookup.com provided a smart and easy solution. Thanks to that solution, we are in growth mode again.
